Makeswift

Makeswift is a composable visual page builder, integrated into Catalyst, that lets marketers and content authors design pages, layouts, and components without writing code.

Core vs. Makeswift-connected projects

Catalyst ships as two variants, tracked by separate Git tags:

  • @bigcommerce/catalyst-core: no Makeswift integration.
  • @bigcommerce/catalyst-makeswift: includes the Makeswift integration covered in this section.

Which one you get depends on your setup path:

  • One-Click Catalyst always provisions a Makeswift-connected project, along with two Makeswift sites (production and development). See One-Click Catalyst.

  • CLI Installation defaults to catalyst-core (no Makeswift) unless you pass --gh-ref @bigcommerce/catalyst-makeswift@latest:

    pnpm create @bigcommerce/catalyst@latest --gh-ref @bigcommerce/catalyst-makeswift@latest

See CLI Installation and Versioning for more on the two tags.
