User Types and Relationships
Understanding B2B Edition Users
B2B Edition users are employees of the business running the storefront. They have specific roles and tasks within the B2B Edition platform.
Predefined system users include roles like administrators, managers, and support staff, all essential for the business’s smooth operation.
- Sales Representative - Focuses on viewing and managing company details, orders, and quote requests for their assigned Company accounts. They do not have access to users, roles, or settings in the B2B Edition control panel.
- Administrator - Enjoys full access to all Company account information and is responsible for managing users, roles, and settings. Multiple Administrators can be appointed.
- Store Owner - The primary user assigned as the store owner in the BigCommerce control panel. The Store Owner has complete access to all areas of the B2B Edition control panel. Only one user can hold the Store Owner role.
Each user role has a fixed set of permissions that you cannot change. You can create custom roles with permissions that suit your needs. For each custom role, you can mark it as ‘Sales Staff,’ so users in that role can only see the company, orders, and quote requests assigned to them.
System Users Relationship to BigCommerce Users
B2B Edition users will have an admin user account in BigCommerce. You can create new system users in either B2B Edition or BigCommerce, but remember to configure permissions separately for each platform.
Existing BigCommerce Users
Users with a BigCommerce account will not automatically get access to the B2B Edition when they install the app. To gain access, a user’s assigned permissions must include “B2B Edition” in the Single Click Apps section. Other user permissions in BigCommerce do not affect access to the B2B Edition, but they do impact the user’s ability to view and manage orders on the BigCommerce platform.
System Users Created in B2B Edition
Users in the B2B Edition have permissions set only within the B2B Edition app. If you need more permissions in BigCommerce, you must configure them in the BigCommerce control panel.
Super Admin
The Super Admin role is a specific position within the Sales Rep category that helps B2B Buyers with their purchases. The table below shows the main differences between a Super Admin and a standard Sales Rep:
Super Admins manage multiple companies. They provide an additional layer of company hierarchy, such as a buyer manager or corporate manager, to oversee various companies or locations from the front-end. With the masquerade function, a Super Admin can create orders, quotes, and manage invoices for companies directly on the website’s frontend, without needing access to the BigCommerce control panel. Only the super admin role can use the masquerade feature to ensure company information remains secure.
