# Smart Edits

> Smart Edits (formerly AI Bulk Actions) is an AI tool in the BigCommerce control panel product list that turns plain-language requests into a reviewable plan of bulk product updates, then applies them after you confirm.

Smart Edits is an AI tool in the BigCommerce control panel. You select products in the product list, describe the change you want in plain language, and Smart Edits drafts a plan of the updates. You review a before-and-after preview and apply the changes when you're satisfied. Nothing changes until you confirm.

> **Beta**
>
> Smart Edits is in beta. Store owners can turn it on in **Settings › Early access**. It requires the latest version of the product list.

## What this page covers

The [Smart Edits support article](https://support.bigcommerce.com/s/article/Smart-Edits-for-Products) documents how to enable and use the tool, the full list of supported product attributes, required permissions, and troubleshooting. Use it for the details.
This page explains what Smart Edits is, when to use it, and where it fits alongside other bulk-editing options.

## How it works

1. **Select products.** In **Products › All Products**, select one or more products and click **Smart edits**.
2. **Describe the change.** Type a request, such as "Set sale price to 20% off" or "Mark these products as featured and enable free shipping." You can also pick a preset action or ask the tool what it supports.
3. **Review the draft plan.** Smart Edits summarizes the proposed changes and flags anything unsupported or conflicting. Generate a preview to compare current and new values.
4. **Refine or apply.** Send follow-up prompts to adjust the plan, or reset and start over. When you apply, every selected product gets the same change.

If a request doesn't apply to some selected products, Smart Edits reports how many were updated, and you can retry the rest with a new prompt.

## What you can change

Smart Edits updates product-level fields in these areas:

* **Pricing**, such as default, sale, and cost price, MSRP, and MAP
* **Identifiers**, such as GTIN, UPC, MPN, and BPN
* **Shipping and dimensions**, such as free shipping, fixed shipping cost, and package dimensions
* **Visibility and availability**, such as visibility, featured status, purchasability, availability text, and pre-order settings
* **Product details**, such as product name, condition, warranty, and order quantity limits

For the exact list of supported attributes, see the [support article](https://support.bigcommerce.com/s/article/Smart-Edits-for-Products).

## What it doesn't do

* Edit variants or modifiers. Changes apply at the product level only.
* Apply a different change to each product in a batch. Every selected product gets the same change.
* Run automatically, on a schedule, or from saved prompts. Every session is started manually.

## When to use Smart Edits

Smart Edits works best for repetitive changes across many products that would otherwise take several bulk-editor passes or manual edits. For example: a seasonal price change across a collection, cleaning up identifiers, or switching shipping settings for a product line.
For tips on writing prompts that apply correctly, see the FAQ in the [support article](https://support.bigcommerce.com/s/article/Smart-Edits-for-Products).
